One thing works differently: finding, locking or wiping a lost device now happens through Apple's Find My and Google's Find My Device rather than inside the app. They are more reliable than an in-app version, and Kiren takes you straight to them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Moving to Kiren
From late September. The change reaches everyone over a few weeks rather than all at once, so there may be a short wait after you first hear about it. F‑Secure Mobile Security keeps protecting you until Kiren is ready for you.
Update to Kiren when it becomes available for you, then open it and sign in with the same email address you use for F‑Secure Mobile Security today. A one-time code is sent to that address to confirm it is you. Enter the code and your subscription is recognized automatically.
That is the whole process. There is nothing to buy, no code to redeem, and nothing to cancel first. Your protection carries on throughout, and you are asked to sign in once only so the app can find your subscription.
It keeps working for now. Kiren is where the protection is being developed from here, so everything new arrives there and not in the old app: the scam and deepfake scanning, the automatic message and browsing protection, and the breach monitoring.
Almost always, this is the email address. Kiren matches you to your existing plan by the address registered with F‑Secure Mobile Security, so signing in with a different one looks like a brand new user. Sign out, sign back in with the original address, and your subscription is picked up.
If the code itself has not come through, check the spam or junk folder for the address you signed in with, then request a new code after a few minutes.
If the right address still does not find your plan, get in touch and we will sort it out. Have the email address and the store you bought through to hand.
Your subscription and price
No to both. Your existing subscription moves across automatically, there is no new purchase of any kind, and your price and your renewal date stay exactly as they are.
If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, nothing about the billing changes either. Your subscription is still billed and managed in your Apple or Google account, and that is also where you would cancel, the same way as before. Cancelling is not part of moving to Kiren, so please do not cancel in order to move.
Kiren has two levels, Free and Plus, and you land on one of them automatically. If you pay for F‑Secure Mobile Security you get Kiren Plus, whatever your old plan was called, because every paid plan maps to Plus. If you use the free version you get Kiren Free, still free, with nothing to buy.
Free covers the checks you run yourself and the device basics: the Scam Scanner for images and deepfakes with a monthly limit, the Link Checker, the Message Checker, a one-time Breach Check, Device Health, app permission analysis on Android, and security and breach news.
Plus adds the protection that runs on its own: continuous monitoring of your personal data with full breach details and guidance, automatic Browsing Protection, automatic Message Protection, automatic scanning on Android, and unlimited scam scans.
What is different in Kiren
Because it is the same app, rebuilt. Kiren replaces F‑Secure Mobile Security rather than sitting alongside it, so the entry on your home screen changes its name and its icon in place. It is still F‑Secure: the full name is Kiren by F‑Secure.
Inside, it is a redesign rather than a new coat of paint. It is built around three screens you swipe between, or reach by tapping the names at the top:
- Overview: how protected you are at a glance, plus news about breaches and scams.
- Activity: the protection tools, including the scam and deepfake image scanner, Link Checker, Browsing Protection, Message Protection and Device Health.
- You: your personal information, including Breach Check and monitoring of your details.
Because the layout has changed completely, older instructions and screenshots for F‑Secure Mobile Security no longer match what you see.
Mostly no. Signing in is enough to restore your protection.
The exception is the personal information you monitor: the addresses, phone numbers and card details you had watched need adding again in Kiren, under the You screen. Monitoring only covers details that have been added, so it is worth doing early.
The protection carries over. Malicious link and site blocking, breach checks, personal data monitoring, device health checks and app analysis on Android are all still there, and several of them are no longer behind a paid tier.
Finding, locking or wiping a lost device is the one capability that moves out of the app. Apple's Find My and Google's Find My Device do the same job more reliably than an in-app version can, and they are already built into your phone, so Kiren links you straight to them rather than duplicating them.
Because Apple does not permit it. No security app on iOS can scan for viruses, which is why Kiren's automatic device scanning is Android-only. On iPhone, Kiren checks that your device lock is set and that iOS is up to date instead.
