Before starting
In most cases, the Allow restricted settings option stays hidden until Kiren has requested the permission at least once. If the option does not appear in the steps below, request it from within Kiren first: open Kiren, swipe to the Activity page, open the Browsing Protection card, and tap the Settings button in the restricted permissions section. Once the request has been made, continue with the steps for the device below, either Standard Android or Samsung specific.
Standard Android
- Open the Android Settings app.
- Tap Apps. If Kiren is not shown among the recently opened apps, tap See all apps.
- Find and tap Kiren.
- Tap the three-dot menu icon (⋮) in the top right corner.
- Tap Allow restricted settings and follow the on-screen instructions.
Samsung (One UI)
The steps on Samsung devices are almost the same, with one difference in where the option appears.
- Open the Android Settings app.
- Tap Apps.
- Find and tap Kiren.
- Look for Allow restricted settings in one of two places, depending on the One UI version:
- Inside the three-dot menu icon (⋮) in the top right corner, or
- As a direct item on the app's information page.
- Tap Allow restricted settings and follow the on-screen instructions.
If the option cannot be found, close Kiren completely first. Open the recent apps view (usually by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and holding, or by tapping the recent apps button), find the Kiren card, and swipe it away to close the app. Then press and hold the Kiren icon, tap App info, and look again. Opening the information page this way often reveals the option when it is otherwise hidden.
After allowing the permission
Once restricted settings have been allowed, return to Kiren. The app will detect that the permission has been granted and continue with setup. If it does not update straight away, reopening Kiren will refresh its status.
